FCCO runs a non-profit high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinic for feral and stray cats.

The clinic is a fast-paced environment where the care of the patients is the priority, and at the end of the day we’ve made a difference in so many lives - feline and human caregiver.

Certified Veterinary Technician

Ideal candidates for this position will be passionate about our spay/neuter program, have critical thinking skills, good time management and have experience with anesthesia induction and monitoring.

+ CVT POSITION DESCRIPTION

Major Duties:

  • Gain complete knowledge of FCCO clinic protocols and procedures.
  • Perform clinic opening and closing duties, these include some cleaning.
  • Induce anesthesia IM while cats are in their trap or squeeze cage.
  • Perform surgical prep following FCCO procedures.
  • Administer vaccines and other SQ, IM and IV injections.
  • Apply services to patients such as flea treatment, de-wormer, and ear mite treatment.
  • Clip and clean wounds as needed.
  • Surgical assisting, setting up cats for surgery, assisting the surgeon.
  • Monitor anesthesia before, during and after surgery.
  • Feral cat handling, transferring of cats from their carrier to squeeze cage.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as cardiac and respiratory arrest. Able to intubate and initiate resuscitation measures as needed. We hold periodic trainings on this so we can respond quickly as a team.
  • Assist with or perform physical exams as needed.
  • Record keeping, both physical log sheets and entering information into the clinic software
  • Surgery patient discharge, client education pertaining to recovering cats in traps, feral cats in general and any special instructions pertaining to the cat.

Qualifications:

  • Veterinary Technician certified in Oregon.
  • Must possess excellent technical skills.
  • At least 4 years of clinical experience
  • Experience working in a high volume spay neuter clinic preferred.
  • Team player with good communication skills, questions are always welcome.
  • Willingness to learn new things and follow set protocols.
  • Support the mission of the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon
  • Able to lift 40lbs and work a physical 10-hour day on your feet
  • Able to lift up to 25lbs over your head.
  • Patience, tolerance and an ability to work with a wide range of people.

Work Environment:
FCCO spay/neuter clinics are fast paced, high-quality, high-volume clinics. You will work with one or two staff CVTs as well as technical and lay volunteers. You may be exposed to animal waste, parasites, cleaning products, and other things that come with working with animals.

The clinics are held at the FCCO Clinic, 4522 S Water Ave, Portland, OR 97239. Clinic days are generally Wednesday through Friday, with an occasional Saturday or Sunday

FCCO is a vegetarian organization and all meals eaten inside the facility must be vegetarian.

Time Commitment:
This position is considered full-time at 30 hours per week and will be paid according to experience. If you are interested in fewer hours, we also may have a part-time position available.
