Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon! We have helped over 85,000 cats, relying on the help of many volunteers. Your participation is key to ensuring that FCCO's services continue to be available for feral and stray cats and their caregivers.

CLINIC Positions at a Glance

+ Clinic Front Office Assistant

Greet and check-in caregivers as they drop off their cats and assist in cleaning and prepping for next clinic. Some office duties or trap cleaning are part of this position.

SHIFTS: typically Tuesday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Sunday once a month.

+ Recovery Volunteer

Clean and prepare traps as cats are in surgery. Get the cats back into their cages after surgery and monitor them as they awaken from surgery.

SHIFTS: typically Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Sunday once a month.

+ Clinic Closing Volunteer

Assist with surgical instrument prep, monitor cats during recovery, and help with checking cats out and clinic clean-up.

SHIFTS: typically Tuesday-Friday 1:00-5:00 p.m. and Sunday once a month.

+ Veterinary Technician or Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS: Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) or experienced veterinary assistant.

SHIFTS: typically Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Sunday once a month.

+ Veterinarian

QUALIFICATIONS: The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon operates a high quality, high volume spay and neuter clinic. Clinics are very fast paced; 2 veterinarians will complete 40-50 surgeries during our weekday clinics and 3 veterinarians will complete 70-90 surgeries during our Sunday clinics.

Veterinarians must be:

  • Licensed in Oregon
  • Able to volunteer for 4 hour shifts
  • Able to perform an ovariohysterectomy in 15 minutes or less
  • Be familiar with performing ovariohysterectomies on cats in heat, pregnant, and lactating.

SHIFTS: typically Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Sunday once a month.

+ Office Assistant

Log incoming phone messages, confirm caregiver appointments, and assist with trap cleaning and office projects as needed.

SHIFTS: weekday mornings 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. or weekday afternoons 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

+ Phone Support Assistant

Log incoming phone messages, return caregiver calls to schedule appointments, and provide information about FCCO’s services.

OUTREACH Positions at a Glance

+ Cat Ambassador Team

Staff education/outreach booths at local street fairs and festivals, and distribute flyers and other materials.

+ Flyering

Everyone can help! Spread the news about upcoming events, spay/neuter specials, and information about our services by flyering and distributing our materials.

DEVELOPMENT / FUNDRAISING Positions at a Glance

+ Event Volunteers

Assist with planning the annual Furball gala and gathering auction items and bottles of wine for the Wall of Wine (valued at $20 or more). Volunteer at events including Furball, Catio Tour, and small fundraisers interacting with and helping donors and other supporters.

+ Development Assistant

Write donor thank you postcards, assist with donor data entry, prepare mailings and other administrative tasks.

Steps to Volunteering

  1. Fill out the Volunteer Application.

  2. Within 7 days, receive an email or phone call about interviewing with our Volunteer Coordinator.

  3. Phone interview with Volunteer Coordinator.

  4. Attend an FCCO volunteer information session.

  5. Follow up confirmation and placement.

Please note that additional training will be required for all clinic volunteers, and other positions as necessary.

Volunteer Requirements

  • At least 16 years old.

  • Able to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per month for a year.

  • Able to commit to scheduled volunteer times.

  • Work well with people - all volunteer positions work directly with the public, staff, and other volunteers.

  • For positions at spay/neuter clinics: able to squat, bend, twist, lift and stand for long periods of time.
